Not sure where to start...

Hi guys,

After reading posts off and on for a few weeks, I decided to sign up and post a few of my own questions. I am finally trying to rebuild my credit. I am a single mother with a single income. There is so much info on the web as far as "how to rebuild credit" and such that I am just flustered and not sure where to start.

Let me start by saying, none of mine are credit cards. They are from when i was younger, mostly medical or utilities. I had one store card, that was paid in a settled amount a few years back. I've paid a few, after paying some current bills off so I don't get behind on those. So here are some questions, I've thought of, if you guys could help me out with your experience, I'd appreciate it.

Would it be helpful to go through a Credit Counseling Agency (i.e. CCCS) or on my own?

Has anyone used the "pay for deletion" letters with success?

We considered getting a credit card (with my mom as a cosigner) and letting her keep the card for gas and whatnot, then letting her pay it off, essentially building my revolving credit for me - good or bad idea?

If I should pay each bill on my own, do I just pick and choose which ones to start paying or pick the smaller ones first or is there a method to the madness? lol

HELP. :) I appreciate ya'lls help so much.

Have a great weekend!!

Once you start paying one the others will be calling you, they put ticklers on the credit reporting agencies that let them know when there has been any activity, so becareful of this.

How old are your accounts? They should fall off after seven years, you may be close to that now. Check that out first before you start paying on things. If you start paying, you will start the statute of limitations all over again. So see how old they are and check out what the statute of limitations is in your state. If you have trouble finding it just post what state you are from then one of us will find it for you.

I knew about the 7 years thing, so anything that will fall off soon, I have pushed to the back burner. Thank you for that info though. I look forward to reading more comments. :)

I just fired off about 5 pay to delete letters on the 13th of Aug 09, and when I hear something this week or next week I will come back and post if it was successful or not. Will keep you informed. If it works I will tell you who the credit agency was so if you have any that match mine, maybe you will have good luck as well. Will post more in a few days. MJ

I would map it all out on paper to stat, then set up goals. once you reach one, treat yourself to celebrate

impressme (not verified)

I sent out a pay to delete letter as written on this forum, and of course changed the names etc.... and I got a letter back on their letter head and they wrote " per your request we will notify the credit bureaus and request them to delete this from your credit report if paid in full by the end of this month". they gave me a name and phone # to contact, and I will be mailing out the $100 certified on Monday the 24th. This one was through a credit company called OAC in Milwaukee WI. So that is the first response and I am excited about the other two I mailed out, so will keep you informed as to whether or not they hold true to their word about deleting it off my credit report. I would have liked them to have stated they would have it removed, but I will check my credit report in 30 days, or I may request again in writing a more specific letter. will keep you update. MJ

I hope you guys have luck with the pay for delete letters, my negatives are all paid, I did not know about the pay for delete, so I paid them and they still reflect negatively on my report, really sucks, wish I would have known. They are due to fall off here in the next year or so, can not be soon enough.
