I have a judgement on me, but the collector-A said that they no longer have the account. I called the other collector, and they say collector-A has it. I disputed the judgement, and it was removed from my credit report. How can I further protect myself from surcharge or anything like that or even legal action? I have attempted to contact the collectors, but no one knows anything. Should I contact the court house? What can i do in the mean time? The reason I contacted the collector is to settle the debt. The creditor still has the account as a charge off, can I settle the debt with them instead? Thank you in advance.

Call up the original creditor and if they have not sold the account to any CA, you may negotiate with them for a settlement. Tell them why you want to settle the debt with them and not the CA. I'm sure they'll negotiate.

Keep a check on your credit report on a regular basis. You must be aware of what is happening to your account. If there is anything wrong on record you can dispute it before hand and do not have to wait till any CA calls you.
