Hi all

Beware of the Credit Bureau of San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara Counties
I want to pass the word around about the “Credit Bureau of San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara Counties”. Do fall for this trap; this is a scam collections company.

Credit Bureau of San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara Counties
1666 Ramona
Grover Beach, CA 93483

Beware of them threatening you about your credit report and what they will do with it. Report them to the Federal Trade Commission and also on the do not call list with the Federal Communication Commission. Ask them to stop calling or cease communication, noop, they will do what they please and call you when they like and continue doing it to harass you.

If The Credit Bureau of San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara Counties has your account dispute the account, do not pay them a dime; if there is a settlement offer, get it in writing and if you pay, pay with a money order and sent it certified mail only. I repeat do not send them any money, they cannot be trusted. They will harass you to the point of pain and they use fake names by lying over the phone. They claim they are looking for work or a business opportunity to send you something in the mail, like a prize or something to trick you. Also do not sign any certified mail from them and if you send anything to them, certify everything you mail out. Send a copy to the Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission as well to your State and Federal representative.

Your credit report, they notify the credit reporting agencies false information about trying to locate you when there is no verification. If you see inquires on your credit report, report this matter with the Attorney General and contact a lawyer. They will mark allover your credit report, so please watch your credit report for anything misleading.

Beware of their lawyers; they will serve you at addresses you don’t live at as well. They want that judgment so they can take everything they can get from you, that is what they do. Live in a different country, you may find out they served an address you don’t live at and won a judgment lying to the judge of that address. These are part of the tactics they do.

Giving your Visa number or check number over the phone, they can take more than disputed out of it. Don’t trust The Credit Bureau of San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara Counties as these people are very hard to deal with. They want your banking routing number, this is a trap, beware of this method. Also your home address, they will use tactics to get their money, so always use a PO Box and money order, with all collection agencies and always certify your mail when sending your money. You need to document everything; these people will call people searching for money or your location information. If you write to them, do expect any written correspondence, they do not write back. They do not tell you their polices either, they will tell you, you have no business knowing about their policy's is what your hear from them. The more you ask the ruder they get with you. Also they monitor their calls; even if they don’t tell you this beware they are recording everything when they call to reach you.

I found this collection agency on the bad customer service list and reports about them online. If you have an issue with this company please notify the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. They use bad business practices and no one should have to deal with agencies like this.

They do not listen to the people they collect from, even there is enough information their client is wrong, they want they 40% commission or more.

They also lie to credit reporting agencies and provide false information on your credit report, they do this to harass you and they will not settle.

You deal with “Credit Bureau of San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara Counties”; you have to deal with a crooked collection agency. Beware who you write to, to complain about this collection agency because they will misinform them that your wrong and they have a reason to collect regardless of the dispute with they're client, even if they're client requests to pull the account off the record, they want their share regardless.

Beware if you file a report with the American Collectors Association Inc, they will lie to them on a response if you file a complaint, so please make it on your list that they need to be informed to other agencies in State and Federal government about this crooked collection agency.

These are other agencies they are apart of:

Consumer Data Industry Association (formerly: Associated Credit Bureaus, Inc)
Arroyo Grande Chamber of Commerce
Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce
San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce
Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce

Thanks

Brad,

It's really helpful of you to share your experience with us about them. And make anyone approaching them to be aware of their actual nature.

The Credit Bureau of SLO is NOT a credit bureau. They charge for inaccurate, bogus, unresearched credit reports, do not accept inquiries of disputes, do not respond to disputes and also are a collection agency that does not care if the debt is not owed, they still pursue and do not answer. They serve and file in court without due process or discovery and report to the REAL agencies (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax) information that is disputed with them and the original 'assumed creditor', but they don't tell those 3 that it is disputed. Still trying to get this cleaned up. Contacted FTC, 3 bureaus, etc and have to wait 30 days now and theyare actively garnishing without due process with fake docs to employer.

They are not a part of the top three credit reporting agencies and I really would not worry about them. If you feel they are unlawfgully pursuing you keep reporting them. Collectors these days have really been getting out of control and violating the fair debt collectio act.

Hi Angry1
Fireyone is correct. The creditors take into account the credit report of any one of the three credit bureaus - Equifax, Transunion and Experian. Hence if there is any negative listing which you do not agree with, you can directly dispute the listing with these three credit bureaus. It is irrelevant whether or not any other credit bureau reports the debt in their credit reports. You can also send debt validation letters to the creditors if you do not agree with the debt they have listed in the credit reports of the there bureaus. For sample debt validation letter, you can visit http://www.creditmagic.org/letters/index.html

WOW!! THIS is good information to have. So many scams out there, to try and hurt those who are trying to clean up their credit.

Thats a great thing about the credit magic site. There are so many sample letters that people can use to help them selves out. You can find a letter to fit any situation. This is something that we as rthe community should be proud of. SD..you are correct..there are alot of scams out there and the best way to protect yourself is monitoring your credit report. No one has an excuse not to do this with each of the companies offering one free pull a year.

This company levied our bank account while were making payments to them! They stated our payments weren't the same as what we started making to them them so they had every right. I thought they couldn't do that as long as you were sending them money. What's up with that. These people are crooks and something should be done.

Hi Raven
A creditor cannot garnish your bank account without bringing judgment against you to do the same. I think that you have authorized them over phone and agreed to make payments through your bank account. For debiting your bank account, the creditors just take your routing number, your bank account number and your voice confirmation over phone. To stop them from taking money from your account, all that you can do is to close the existing account and open a new one.

Why is it wrong for someone to have to pay something they owe? I tried to collect for a bad check that was written for work I had done for a client and the person wouldnt make good on it and the D/A couldnt collect it either...so I turned it to the collection agency and they did collect it. There are times when bills have to be paid because they are owed. So if you owe a bill pay it, then you wont have to worry about the Credit Bureau of San Luis Obispo...or any other bureau for that matter.

I'm sorry if I step on any toes becuase I'm new. It just makes me angry when people say just pay your bill or don't get into credit trouble to begin with. There are deadbeats but there are also a lot of people who becuase of circumstances they couldn't control got into trouble. Or the people who got into trouble becuase they went crazy with cards. They've learned their lesson.
A lot of us would like to "just pay our bills". And I'm trying to do that. But I'm not going to get ripped off and pay someone MORE than what I owe either.

These forums help people. They help them understand their rights and help prevent people from getting ripped off by bottom feeders who prey on people who are trying to find hope that they will see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I appreciate your replies and advice but you apparently did not read...I DID NOT owe the money, I DID dispute with the agencies, they say they won a judgement against me when I did not even receive notice of anything, there was no discovery, they DID garnish my wages for a 40% commission over what they said I originally owed. They just contacted me AGAIN by letter with no $ amt or creditor name or anything so I would call them. They told me I owed $80 more in uncollected interest and if I don't cough it up they will garnish again. Remember, this was collected through garnishment even while it was in dispute. I never owed the debt. Now...any advice after re-reading this?

Hi Angry,

According to the FDCPA, a collection agency cannot collect a debt, if it is under dispute. You can sue CBSLO for violation of FDCPA laws. You can take the help of an attorney and prepare a case in your defense. You will be required to provide the court with documents to support your view point (for instance copies of the dispute letters you sent to the credit reporting agencies). If you win you will be able to recover your money and the attorney fees as well.

Good luck to you. :)

Problem is unless Angry has enough proof that he or she does not owe the debt then it may cost more for the atty then what it is worth. If it were me I would call the FTC and atty general in your state and fill them in on all of this. Onece they put in for an amount to be settled with the first judge (whether you were aware of it or not) they can not then go and take more money then the judgement awarded them. Lets say the judgement was for $400 they can not then come back and say well I am taking $800. It was not awarded for that amount.
Have you visited the courthouse and looked into this matter? If you already paid on the first judgement you may not be able to do anything about that but you do not have to let them keep taking money they were not awarded. Call your atty general or the FTC immediately or see if the courthouse can assist you with this last demand.

I use to work there for over 2 years. I have learned a lot from this job but most of all how you need to watch what you do. If you sign for responsibility for something then READ your contract and find out your own dead line for final payment or you would never be in collections. As far as a garnishment, you knew you owed it and have been hiding from it (YOUR DEBT) like bounce checks, unpaid medical bills (your shared cost, which you know this from your own employer insurance plan book). You HAVE to be served and go to court or you loose at court or just plane don't show up in court (most times) that is how they get the judgement to be able to wage attach. That is the ONLY way they can do that action. This sounds like a lot of people that went that road with closing their eyes to their financial problems. Make the deals and pay what you promised to pay to clear this debt. The person (client of the Credit Bureau) you owe has already had to take the hit with a loss on their books and loose 1/2 of the debt)

Thu, 01/07/2010 - 04:18 Permalink

Well, GUEST..............I don't think anyone is "closing their eyes" to anything. It's not that people, on this Forum, WANT to avoid anything. If they didn't want help with debts, they wouldn't be here. Haven't YOU (GUEST) ever been in a rough financial situation and needed help and advice on how to handle it?

I do pay my accounts this company has sent false information to all 3 credit reporting agencies. In addition when trying to resolve the issue I spoke with several rude and very uneducated unethical persons. I had to get a lawyer to get cooperation. Thankfully not only did I prove they were falsely reporting and in addition harassing me I won my law suite against them. I would suggest holding your ground and if that fails get a lawyer.
