How do you know what is a "cash advance"?

Recently, I made a charge, that I thought was just a simple credit card charge, not a cash advance, but my credit card is telling me that it was a cash advance because it was a bail bondsmen. Of course they are trying to tack on all of the ridiculous fees associated with cash advances. Nothing in my paperwork specifically says that a bondsmen is considered a "cash advance". How would I know, and how can I dispute this with my credit card company since I don't have anything in writing?

Hi ebony,

A "cash advance" is an option that some credit card companies provide to their cardholders. "Cash advance" option allows you to use your credit card like a debit card, and get cash.

but my credit card is telling me that it was a cash advance because it was a bail bondsmen

I have heard that credit card (CC) companies, often misunderstand a bail bond charge as cash advance. You can call your credit card company and tell them that, you made a simple credit card transaction, not a "cash advance". If required, you should follow-up in writing, giving the details of your transaction.

Since you do not have any paperwork to support your point, you can request your CC company to waive the cash advance fee, out of goodwill. The CC company may agree to waive the fees, if you have good credit records and use your credit account responsibly.
