Validation from NorthStar

I sent the VD letter to NorthStar and they sent back a copy of my credit card monthly bill. It is a bill that the credit card company sends to you each month. Does this validate the debt?

Hi Taffy,

In my opinion a monthly credit card bill does not validate your debt. You will have to check if you have sent them a proper debt validation letter(DV). You could get a sample of DV letter in the "letters in credit section ". Have you sent a similar letter ?? If yes, then on receiving the debt validation letter, the creditor or the collection agency must provide you with proper validation within 30 days from the date they receive your DV letter. If they fail to validate the debt within this period, then you are no longer liable to pay the debt as per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Hi Taffy,

Yes i completely agree with rachael. There are certain other details that NorthStar should provide, once you have requested for debt validation. These include:
1) Any proof in writing that they have either purchased your debt from your original creditor(OC) or have been assigned by your OC to collect debt.
2) Your payment details, amount of debt , any late fines. And their method of calculating fines.
3) A copy of your previous payment records from the original creditor.
You should immediately contact NorthStar and request them to send the details at the earliest possible.

My Pleasure Taffy

You could contact NorthStar once, before you actually ask your creditor to remove the debts. Wait for about 2 weeks. Still if you do not receive any valid response from NorthStar you can insist on your creditor to remove the debts permanently from your credit report.

Hi Rachael

I have been working on my credit report for 5 months now. I have about 10 Hospital bills that I am trying to find a letter for. I have sent all my DV letters to all on my credit report. It takes a lot of time and work but in the end I will be better off doing this my self. I have found lots of help here and come every day to see any new post or answer to questions that I can use to help me on my mission to fix my credit. Thanks again

Hi Taffy,

It is really good to hear that you are trying to fix your credit issues. Attempting to solve credit problems on your own, requires a bit of research but saves a lot of bucks. So it is worth the effort. It is a pleasure to share information in the credit section. Keep in touch.

Good luck to you.
