I have some items on my credit report that have been there for over 7 years. I am aware that they can remain there from 7-15 years even. However, I do know that some of the companies had went out of business.
I have paid all my debts off in full. Not sure if this is allowed, but figured I would ask. Is there a sample letter to send out to request old creditors to remove themselves from my credit report :?:
Thanks for any and all help in advance.
I I understand you right, you can do a couple of things. If the debts are with the original creditor, send the credit agencies a letter stating the information is incorrect. If the companies can not validate the debt the credit agencies will delete the accounts. If they are paid in full and past the 7 year period; except bankrutcy chpt. 7, you can request the account be deleted as well. If it hasn't been 7 years and you owe, send the company a validation letter, if they are unable to validate the account will be deleted. If you are sure they are out of business they won't validate the account and it will be deleted.
Thank you for your help. Yes, basically there are a few corporations that I know are out of business, and my accounts are paid in full, and is past the 7 year itch mark. (of course stupid mistakes I made from 18 to my early 20's).
Now should I be sending the letter to the credit reporting agencies or the company themselves?
nevermind..just reread your post lol..thanks
If the credit card is on your report and you have not paid any on the balance and it has been 7.5 years can you write to them to have it taken off? I was also looking at my report and when does the SOL go into effect a "Reported Since Date" or "Date of Status" and then there is a "Last Reported" date also there is a "Status Details" states scheduled to continue on record until march 2013.
The last date of activity is what they credit agencies go with. If they are saying 2013, then they have your last reporting period sometime 3 years ago. I would send them a validation letter. The account is old and its worth the try.

Nora, If some have went out of business why not file a dispute with the credit bureaus and see if you can get them removed? I believe seven years is the total reporting time for credit card debt. You should be able to dispute them due to that factor. I would give it a shot. Also maybe give the FTC a call on what to do after a debt reaches its reporting time period. They could advice you the quickest way to get it removed. Someone around here may knowalso. Mine fell off right after seven years.
