i have on my credit report a credit card that is my ex-wife's i'm just an authorized user am i responsible for the bill it went to collections i called the collection agency they told me they can't talk to me on the account because my name don't appear on there what should i do.

thanks Bryan

File a dispute on the credit reports, let them know that you are not the primary holder on the account. I know that I read somewhere that the laws changed and that the primary holder was the only one that would be held responsible. We had several conversations about this change and how ex spouses would be screwing their spouses over. Google credit card law changes and see what you can come up with. Goodluck with this, hope all works out for you.

As per the new FICO 08 scoring guidelines, authorized users credit report will no longer reflect the credit history of the primary holder. So if you dispute the listing with the credit bureaus, it will get removed from your report. Authorized users are not liable to pay off the credit card debt. Only co-signers are responsible for paying off the debt. You can find sample dispute letters by visiting the link letters of credit.
