I live in Calif.
On my credit report there is a bankruptcy that was filed 4 years ago. I was just informed of this when I pulled my credit report for the first time. How do I get this remove? It isn't mine...I only have 2 items on my credit report...my student loans and my credit card. Nothing else at all. Any advice is highly appreciated. The lawyers name is listed on the report but no other information other than the date when it was filed and settled.
Thanks.
If you have not filed any bankruptcy, you should immediately dispute it with the credit bureaus, because a bankruptcy listing lowers your credit score by as much as 150 points. As per the Fair Credit reporting Act any incorrect listing can be removed from your report. If the bureaus do not remove the listing from your report file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
