When I checked my free credit report yesterday I was shocked!! There are 8 inquiries done by collection agencies and few creditors that I never dealt with. My question is, will it hurt my score. What can I do to remove these inquiries? Thanks for your time.
Hi dan,
Welcome to the Creditmagic forum.
There may be two cases:
2.Unauthorized inquiries
Seems that the later happened to you. Did you check your all three credit reports? If not, the next time you check the other two reports, you are going to find these inquiries there as well.
Unauthorized collection inquiries is going to lower your scores. If you are confident that the inquiry is done without any legitimate purpose you need to send a "inquiry removal letter" to the concerned creditor/collection agency via certified mail requesting a return receipt. Once they fail to respond your next step should be to send a letter to the CRA requesting them to remove the unauthorized inquiry from your credit report.
Also note that there are some authorized soft inquiries done time-to-time which appear and stay on your reports for 12-24 months and do not affect your credit score. Examples of authorized soft inquiries are inquiries done for account monitoring or review purposes, promotional inquiries, employment and internal inquiries.
Feel free to let us know if you have any other queries.

Richard
Clearly a violation of the FCRA law if its done without any valid reason. Hey dan, go ahead and dispute it. We are with you. All the best!!
Inquiries
Wrong. A collection can run your credit report. it is called permissable purpose. If you are applying for insurance or a job, if you owe somebody money, if a collection company ownes your debt all permissable purpose.
Inquiries
Hi Dan,
To answer your question about inquiries. There are two types. HARD and SOFT inquires.
Hard inquiries are when you apply for credit. Those remain for 2 years.
Soft inquiries are when a creditor pulls your credit for pre-screening for the sole purpose of possibly offering credit based on credit criteria. These are not veiwed by other creditors or lenders and they do not impact your credit scores.
If a collection agency pulled your credit there soft inquiries. They pulled your credit because maybe they purchased an old debt etc.. and they are trying to locate you. Disputing a soft inquiry doesn't matter because there is no impact on the credit.
One of the main factors in credit scoring is inquiries but it's also the most minimal when it comes to the affect on your credit score. Inquiries only make up 10% of your credit score.

I work for a company that issues credit base on the person credit history, therefore this would be a Soft inquire. Our customer signs a Credit Check Release, which gives permission to pull the owner’s personal credit. Please advise if there is law on how many time inquire can be made.
Example – Customer gave the incorrect name spelling on application, but inquire went through with no becon score. 2nd try with the correct information and the report gave becon and credit history. Now the employee that pulled the score is being pointed out for butting the company at risk for inquiring on this customer’s credit twice.
Please advise (Job is on the line).
credit inquiry
I have an old debt from 10+ years ago from my teen years, now i have worked hard on rebuilding my credit and it has worked! However yesterday I got checked my report and saw a collection agency had purchased my old debt and did an inquiry! #1 can they check my credit w/o my knowldege or approval? #2 being more 7 years can they put original debt back on my credit?
credit
By law, CA's are not suppose to run your credit without your permission..but, they do anyway. Yes,..everytime your CR is ran, your score does go down a few points. I DO know if the debt is over 7 years old (the SOL for most states), it's not suppose to be on your credit anymore. If the CA DOES put the debt back on your CR, you can 'dispute' with the CRA's and tell them about the 'fall-off' date, etc. Also...don't make any kind of arrangements with the CA BECAUSE of the debt being so old. What the CA has record of is the last deliquent payment, if they try to put it back on your CR. That is your proof on how old the debt is. I actually went by my own 'rule' and DID get a debt removed doing this same thing!! Good luck.
