A car with HSBC that was charged off for like 5,500.00
They came to reposses it, but it was totalled so they just left it.
Several Credit cards, totalling around 8,000.00
A few hospital bills totalling around 2,000.00
A judegment against me for taxes on my old house, that I did not know about but I sold the house, and the tax lein was paid off when they did a deed search for me to sell it.
I am really wanting to get a better credit score as mine is currently around 420...

it sounds like you had some fun. I would say to you that there is no easy approach to fixing your credit. Information is always key; a little direction helps as well.
Sometimes we do things that effect our future tremendously and while we may be good hearted well spirited people. Our credit score can reflect the complete opposite.
I am new as well to credit related issues, so my advice may not be accurate for your situation that you wrote.
1st if creditors are within the confines of the law, and what you don't dispute to not be accurate, Has a good chance of staying on your record till the stature of limitations has run out, generally 7 years is what I read but it varies from state to state.
2nd you have come to a great site with all the information and help you could ask for.
If I were you I would start to keep records, gather up my credit reports and start to look for anything that does not belong. If it does not, you can dispute this information with letters to the credit agencies. Sample letters are in the Forum. This may sound intimidating even bigger than dodging IED's downrange. But it is not. Follow the examples and inject your information into the letter, then send the certified mail to all three major agencies. You may want to make copy's just in case you need to repeat this step.
You will need to monitor you reports for changes, and adjust your plan of attack from there.
While that is a good approach it is not a quick fix, different scenarios will arise that will require more reading and different letters.
Advice is available through credit repair agencies, but read up before expecting miracles.
I hope my advice helps.

Hi Sgthoofer
Your credit score has gone down so much only because your accounts have been charged off. A charge off account cannot be removed from your credit report and it will stay there for seven years. Whenever an account is charged off, it reduces your credit score by as much as 100 points. However if you can improve your credit history from now on, you credit score will increase. For this you need to make payments with your credit card and repay it within the due date if you have a credit card.
Taking your credit score from 420 to around 700 is not an easy task. First of all you need to pay off your charge off accounts as soon as possible if the Statute of Limitation on the debt has not expired. This is because since your account is charged off, it does not mean that you are no longer required to pay back the debt. Even if your account is charged off, the creditor can sue you to bring judgment against you. And if there is a second judgment, your credit score may fall further.
There is a way to do credit repair without you having to be scammed by these companies. You can repair your own credit.
