I have a notice from a CA for a hospital bill dating back to 5/23/08. I have received info directly from the OC which is valid and I want to pay in full ($150). The OC will accept my payment directly-I would prefer paying them instead of the CA with their interest tacked on. The CA is listed on my credit report. If I pay the OC directly, how do I get the CA deleted COMPLETELY from my credit report?
I'm sorry...the bill dates back to 5/23/2007--not 2008 as I mentioned above.
If the original creditor accepts your payments directly, I think that you make make the payment to the OC. Now, since the OC is able receive the payment, it means that the OC has only passed on the collection rights to the CA and has not sold off the debt. However, if you want to get the negative listing removed from your credit report after you pay off the debt, you should negotiate with the original creditor for pay for deletion agreement before you pay off the debt. But make sure that you make the agreement in writing.
Yes, Mary is right. If the OC has not sold off the debt to the collection agency, then the OC can take back the collection rights from the CA. Now, had the debt been sold off to the CA, and you make the CA agree to PFD, only the CA listing would have been removed and not the OC listing. Now if you make the PFD agreement with the OC, both the OC listing as well as the CA listing will get removed from your credit report once you pay back the debt in full.
Thanks for all the info!! I will pay the OC directly and send a letter to the CA that the debt has been paid in full to the OC. The OC has made NO entry on my credit report...only the CA. Does that affect your advice???
Dont forget to make sure you have a PFD agreement in writing before you make your payment
