On July 27,2007 I sent $1,626.14 via Western Union to Allied Interstate.. On Thursday I was served with papers from Palisades Collection Company saying that I have never paid that settlment. This is the first time I have gotten anything from them, but they claim they sent a letter out on July 30,2007.. I have 30 days to comply with this letter or I have to go to court.I called the law firm that was attached to my papers and they said that the reciept from my Western Union was'nt enough proof that this was paid.So I called Allied Interstate and got the run around from them..(They had told me when I 1st paid the settlment that they would send me a letter saying this was apid in full, but I have called every week since July 27,2007 trying to get it from them) So what do I do now,if they don't send it,I'm screwed and I don't want to get stuck paying this again....I have concidered getting a lawyer.

You will probably need to get a lawyer in this instance and when you are done, then sue the other company for your headaches and your attorney fees, so that you can recover your money there.
Do you have anything that states the amount you paid was paid in full, Will they send you anything like that? If not, tell them that you will have to have them served them with a subpeona, because this would be evidence in your case.
Either way the summons needs to be answered with in thirty days so that they do not win by default. I have a case pending on me that has been lingering for almost two years now.
This is really ridiculous. It ws probaly hard enough to come up with the cash to pay the collection and now an atty too. I would make sure they paid. Answer the summons and do not lose your western union receipt. I do not know much about how western union works but I imagine that it would be like a money order and they could track it and tell you who cashed it. Maybe you could call them on Monday and ask a few questions. It may get you somewhere.
I think that your receipt from Western Union Money Transfer made in favor of Allied Interstate is a sufficient proof that you have paid back the debt. You can dispute the debt with Palisades collections asking them to validate the debt. I don't think that they will be able to validate the debt. At the same time send a letter by certified mail with a copy of the receipt of western Union money transfer to Allied Interstate asking them to confirm that the payment has been made in full. You can also choose not to pay Palisades Collection, and give them chance to sue you to the court. This is because even if judgment goes against you, you need to pay off the debt and so you can take a chance to prove before the court that the debt has already been paid off. But make sure that you file a response to the court summon if in case they sue you to the court and appear before the court on the court date.
I would think the reciept should be all that you need to verify that you have paid the debt. They probably won't pursue the suit once they see that you have a reciept for payment.
The biggest hing here is do not send the original Western Union receipt. be sure that you yourself retain this and only send the copy. Maybe it is a mix up a Palisades and when they recieve the certified letter with the copy of proof of payment the will not proceed in this matter any longer.
I still do not believe a judgement would go against you in court because of the proof. Dis you by any chance see if this Western Union payment to Palisades was trackable, like a money order? That would be a good way to see if they had gotten the payment.
good point fireyone, if they are saying they did not get it. I always wondered how you track money orders and western union, I am sure there is a way somehow.
I am almost positive there is a tracking number. I know there is with a money order but you have to wait for a certain time period before they will track it. I think it is between 15-30 days. I hope the poster comes back and lets us know how it all worked out for him. You always hear pf the these collectors com ing back and trying to recollect on a debt. I wonder if they do that on purpose or if they don't know how to keep good records.
I have never known how they work, they do have numbers on them, just never had to track one down before.
I haven't used on either I was just thinking they would be like a money order. Now those I have used plenty of.
