I just discovered that two charge offs appear on my credit report. I was not aware that I was an authorized user in my ex husband's account. It is having a negative impact on my credit score. I do not live in a community property state. Otherwise my credit is impeccable? How can I have them removed?
Hi MMeilstrup
As per the old FICO scoring model, if you are an authorized user of a credit card accout, the payment history of the primary account holder ie your ex husband's credit history will also reflect in your credit report. Now since charge off listing can never be removed from your credit report before the expiry of seven years, it will stay there for this period. However, as per the New FICO model 08, the delinquency listings of the primary account holder will not be listed in your credit report.
I agree with Anthony. I think that your credit score will definitely improve as soon as the new FICO scoring model 08 becomes effective. This is because the delinquencies with your ex husband's credit card will be removed from your credit report and so the charge offs will no longer be listed in your report. However, if the listing is not removed from your credit report after the new model becomes operative, you may contact the credit bureaus and send them dispute letters asking them to remove the listing.
Wow MM bet this is good news huh? When does the new FICO scoring model of 2008 become effective?
omg, this is good and bad, can you imagine how many people will end up with their ex's bad debt reported. I was the primary on a card and my ex ran it up and did not pay his portion, I got stuck with the bill. I was glad it reflected on his account too.
how will this work with joint accounts?

GN I think with joint accounts both are responsible. were you now really mad when he did this? What kind of person can look in the mirror when they do this to someone else. Couldn't you take him to small claims court. I seen this happen plenty of times on judge Hudy and the other person got held responsible.
