I have a report on my credit report, however, I have tried to contact library and they have no record of my debt?? Can someone in Unique please help me get to the bottom of this. I am sure that i do owe the Library.

OMG, these libraries are getting crazy, there was another post here sometime ago where a library turned somebody over to a collection agency and it turned into this ungodly amount.

I agree with Jessica, take it to them and request that they send something that will clear it up or dispute it on your report and when they contact the library they can let them know that the bill does not exist, they should take it off your report at that point. goodluck and keep us updated.

Hi Euribe
Since you are sure that you owe the library money, all you can do is to send the collection agency or the library whose name appears in your credit report against the debt listing, a debt validation letter asking them to validate the debt. Send the letter under certified mail. Under the FDCP Act, they will validate the debt and as soon as they validate the debt, try to pay it off in full if you can afford to do so. However, if the debt is so much that you cannot afford to repay back, you should come to a repayment agreement to repay it off. However, if you can make them agree for PFD agreement, then this listing will be removed from your report as soon as you pay off the debt.

I agree with Anthony with this point. But since the library is denying the fact that you owe any money to them, you can send dispute letter to the credit bureaus telling them that you do not agree with the listing. The credit bureaus will check it with the library and if the library confirm that you do not have any debt with them, they will remove the listing from the credit report.
