I received a summons from Midland Credit management for a debt I don't remember. I need to write a letter disputing it and am not sure how to go about it. I don't want to sound like a moron. I have found a few debt validation letter samples on here and wondered if those would work. Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks
Hi Guest,
Send the debt validation letters to Midland Credit. If your debt is valid and if you think you have forgotten anything about it you will also come to know about it. However send a copy of your letter by registered mail. Keep the original to yourself. It is indeed very important to keep all documents of communication and any document dealing with the debt, safely with you. This helps.
Good Luck.
Guest,
You will not sound bad if you are validating your debt. Thats legal and thats what you should do. Keep track of all communications so that in future you never face any problem.
Also try to check your credit report for any added information which you might get.
Hi,
Do not dispute it right away. Let them respond to the validation letter which you will send by certified mail. Also see your credit report for any item that relates to the same debt.
Then if you think it is not a valid debt go ahead and dispute it. You will find many sample letters if you search in our debt forum.
Keep us posted.

Thanks guys! I received the summons almost 2 weeks ago and have only 35 days to respond. Do I still only send a validation letter to MCM or do I need to send something to the attorney?
If you want to interact with your attorney you can always do that but for such an issue where you can do it yourself it is better that you go ahead with the debt validation letter.
You can always take advice from your attorney.
