I need help getting started on repairing my credit

I would like to thank all of you in advance.

First thing is that I have one account that the SOL is up. My understanding is that I can send a certified letter to the CA and have them pull it off of my report correct?

Next ... there are a couple of things that are listed on our report twice by the same CA. Can I have one of the duplicates removed and how?

Also, one of our old auto accounts was bought by another bank and it is also listed numerous times on our CR and in my eyes it looks bad even though it is not actually a negative post. With it being listed so many times it confuses me and I would like them completely removed if possible.

And finally, how do I start with the collections accounts? I want to negotiate with them and pay these couple of accounts off but I want to do it right. The ones that are already bought from a previous CA can be removed correct? That goes back to one account being listed numerous times by different CA's.

If I have failed to tell you anything you need to know please ask because I want this CR straight by next summer so we can buy a house or some land. Our CS is 599 right now so I feel like a yr will help us get our score up to 620 at least?? Am I wrong?

Hello...........I want to welcome you to 'our' forum. I'm not an expert at Credit..that's for sure. With help from this forum, I've been starting to fix my credit as well. Alot of people here have great advice. I know it can be time consuming, but, really an advantage in the long run. As you start working on your credit, your credit score does go up in time. There are several people on this forum that can 'get back to you' in what, specifically you need what certain debts. I just wanted to say...Welcome.

littlelady,

send DV letters to each account on your CR that you hope to remove, settle, alter etc. You will use this letter to either:
~prove the CA had to right to post the listing and force them to remove it
~break the ice with the CA to work out a settlement and pfd
~get duplicate listing removed by companies that no longer have anything to gain by dreging up the required proof.

Hello littlelady, you've definately come to the right place for the help you seek! Have you ever tried filing a credit dispute to have these multiple accounts removed? I would still take CMBV22's advice about the debt validation letters which you can find an example of here, http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/sampleletter-debtvalidation.html. If you have a year before buying the home or land you want than you definately have time to increase your score by more than 20 points. When your auto lender was bought out they should have provided you with some kind of documention about the purchase. If you still have this I would send a copy of that in with your credit dispute.

As far as the SOL account, are you sure that you haven't made any payments to that account within the SOL timeframe? A lot of people think that the SOL starts when you account was opened but it actually starts from the date you last made a payment or in some cases even when you last negotiated with your creditor.

Best of luck and any other questions just feel free to ask...

Hi littlelady
SOL is over does not necessarily imply that the listing will get removed from your credit report. It will stay in your credit report for seven years from the date of your first missed payment although the SOL is over. So there is no need to contact the CA regarding this. Once your seven years is over, it will be automatically removed from your credit report.

Yes, Justin is correct, however, you can send certified letters to the Collection agency regarding duplicate listings in your credit report. If the CAs does not respond to your listing, send dispute letters to the credit bureaus asking them to remove the duplicate listings. To start with your collections account, send debt validation letters to the CAs and on getting response, come to a repayment agreement with the CAs. You should also try to make the CAs agree to pay for deletion.

That last part is a really big and important thind. M ake sure you get the Pay for delete in writing and make sure to ask for it from the beginning. Alot or I should say most of the time they won't delete a debt after it is paid unless you ask for it before hand and request it in writing before remitting any money.

Make sure that you get everything in writing so if the agency does not follow through with their promise you can provide the credit reporting agency with a copy of the paid in full along with a copy of the paid for delete. I have personally experienced collection agencies not following through with their promises after I have held up my end of the bargain.

Please feel free to come here and post any further questions that you may have, we have all been through it and are willing to share our experience with you and try to guide you through the process. Please keep the forum updated, believe it or not, most of us here wonder what happen to someone once we don't hear from them for a while. goodluck hope it all goes smoothly for you.

I have the 'double-posting' thing, with 2 different CA's, myself. Two inquiries about the same account. The inquiry that should NOT be on there is Cash Call. As difficult as it was to deal with them, I don't know if they would take a letter or not......legally, I mean. The OTHER CA is the one Cash Call 'sold' the account to. So, CC no longer 'owns' the account anymore. Any advice?

Who is the agency that cashcall sold your account too? Are they working with you?

Cash Call is a HORRIBLE company. Another very HIGH % company....almost 99%, I think, The other company is trying to raise the %, too. According to the other ccompany, they say if they wanted to, they can raise the % just as high. How can they do that legally? Saying they "are doing me a favor..etc." Goodness. The other CA is Global Accredited Acceptance. They are in Dallas, TX. I've read some shady things about them on the Web.

Whoa...how an they possibly and legally get that much interest. That is INSANE.

That is how they make their money, prey on the weak that can not get a loan anywhere else.

But that much interest? That is the reason so many people get stuck in debt is because of places like this. Boy I am sooooooooo glad to hear PA is doing something about this.

Me too, I just sent the department of banking and email inquirying on how they will know what consumers used the service. Will they supeona the records, I have no paperwork at all from the loans that I took out from them. I am hoping that they will be able to get the records from the company when they seek restitution. I am sure that this company will have them hopefully.

I bet they probaly will. Did you ever recieve anything in the mail about a class action suit in the past? I know I have. One was for Heliq-Meyers, a furniture company. Seems they over charged and I never knew. Well apparently someone did cause they filed a suit and since I was a customer I got notified and sent a paper to sign if I wanted to participate. I usually never did becasue the atty and person who originally sued got the bulk of the money and everyone else would get like $8. I have had a lot of these over the years.
I do not think you will have to worry about paperwork and you should def. see more than $8 since they are being sued ny an agency.

Obviously,..there are a few people that want to 'spam' this forum. That's really not a good thing to do.
However,..since the subject, on this post, is 'helping with Credit Repair', I will give my own personal experience in what I have been doing. My credit was horrible for such a long time!! Instead of applying for every piece of credit I could (which brings down your score everytime you do that..), I just continued to pay on what I had. The MORE you pay on your debts, the LESS in debt you become. It sounds simple,yes..but..alot of people don't realize it's that simple. I have to admit that I sure didn't for a long time!! If you have debts, on your CR's, and they have been there longer than 7-10 years (depending on what they are) you can 'dispute' the CB's and have them removed. I've done that, too and it does work. This is just alittle advice for ya'll!! :)
