Why did Fia Csna inquire to Equifax about my credit rating?

possibly to offer you credit or to collect on an old debt that you may owe.

was it a hard inquiry? If so they can only look into your credit if you gave them permission or if they have an account with you. You can send them a letter asking for proof of permission to inquire. If it was a soft inquiry GN is correct.

Hi segkjg
If you have applied for a new credit card or any other line of credit from fia csna, they will pull your credit report from the credit bureaus to check your potentiality as a borrower. This is known as hard inquiry and stays in your credit report for two years. As CMBV said, you can send them letter asking them to prove that they had your permission to inquire. If they don't ask them to delete it from your credit report.

Yes, Justin is right. Each hard inquiry in your credit report lowers your credit score by about 5 points. So whenever you find a hard inquiry in your credit report which has not been authorized by you, send letters to the inquirer asking them to verify your authorization or remove it from the credit report. In most cases the inquirers remove the listing from your credit report. However, if the inquiry is authorized by you, the inquirers may not remove it from your credit report.
