Hello.
I have a cell phone bill from 2007. The bill went to collections and I was sure that we settled the claim at an agreed upon amount. Recently, I found out the cell phone carrier only deducted that amount from the original bill and is showing that I still owe. I have attempted to discuss this matter with them but no resolve. I refuse to pay another dime. My question is how long does it take for this to fall of my credit and is there any other steps I can take besides seeking legal action?

All negative items remain on a credit report at least for 7-10 years from the date of your first default. In your case, you can send a disputer letter to the credit bureau. From now on, make sure you communicate only through a certified mail with a return receipt request. In this dispute letter, you can request the credit bureau to remove this inaccurate information from your credit report and update your account status as “Paid-in-full”.
