I'm hoping that someone can help me. A couple years ago my CIBC checking account got closed. Upon Closure the manager called me and had me come down to the office to sign for a check. Baiscally the check was for some NSF fees that had been reversed thus putting my account into a positive balance. I signed for the check and went on my merry way.
Well now it's two years later and CIBC is claiming I owe them over $2000 in debt inccured on this account prior to closure from NSF fees. I am at a loss of where to even start with this as I did not keep anything from this account, including the reciept of payment of the positive balance from the account once it was closed.
Does anyone know what I should do and if I can argue this?
HELP!!! CIBC Issue
You can make a written request to CIBC for a debt verification letter via certified mail with a return receipt request. If they fails to give you a proper debt verification letter, then you can file a lawsuit against them to the State Attorney General or FTC.
