Judgment after car accident

I had bumped a car ahead of me. However, there were no damages to either car. But, later the other driver claimed extreme injury. She wanted $50,000. My insurance company did not agree to pay that amount or offer anything close to it. And so she sued. The jury awarded her $1,600 for medical expenses incurred for tests that she took in the several days after the accident.

As I understand it, this judgment will end up on my credit report. That does not seem fair to me. The insurance company will or has written a check to her and will get/file that the obligation has been satisfied.

How will this effect my credit score? Is there anything I can do to lessen the impact?

Hi Jo Black,

As I understand it, this judgment will end up on my credit report.

As the insurance company is making the payments on your behalf, you can ask the insurance company to talk to the other person's attorney about this. The insurance company can request the lawyer to abstain from reporting this judgment to the credit bureaus.

Thanks,

Aaron
