Incorrect Debt

Hi impressmesilly

Carol,

I have been purchasing my credit report in between when I am allowed the free yearly report, and I noticed that when I purchased my credit report today from Transunion a debt showed up from NCO FIN/33 for an original balance of $8399 and account balance of $9758 has showed up and it is for medical, and I can say for certainty this is not my debt, I have been a disabled veteran for exactly 10 years, and the only medical bill I have I am currently paying on. My question to you is I have been researching and reading on the internet about NCO Financial and am now reluctant to contact them due to all the negative comments about them and how they treat you, they are down right dirty and rude. It does not state who the original creditor is, and I need to know this, they give a PO Box and if I send a debt verification letter I don't want it going to a PO Box, and it does not list a full account number and I would need that along with who the original creditor is. I need your guidance on how to go about this, I do not want to stir them up until I know what to do. On the credit report I purchased all it says about NCO financial is this:

NCO Financial Systems
PO Box 13584
Philadelphia, PA 1910
#800-444-1107

I am currently paying on a medical debt in the amount of $7251 to a local collection agency, who is paying the hospital when I make the payments, and the reason I know this is I called the hospital today. Could this debt have been sold to NCO Financial Systems, and also belong to the local one?

NCO Financial Systems posted on my credit report that the date it was opened was on 06/2008 and the debt to the hospital was originally on or about July of 2007. Is the date on my credit report posted by NCO Financial Systems the date they got it, and why have I not heard a thing from them?

Thanks so much for any help you can give.

You don't have to worry about stirring them. Simply dispute the debt if you know you don't owe it. This is exactly what you need to do right now. I am sorry I didn't see your post earlier which is why this late reply. But I hope you have disputed it already. Do let me know what happened.

Hello, the numbers definatley do not seem to add up here nor does the dates. I would inquire with the hospitol to be sure they still own your debt and who they have collecting it. I have had passed medical bills and have paid through hospitol hired collection agencies. The amount never went up but it was transferred between a couple collection agencies. I hope you did dispute the debt. This is a good way to get to the bottom of the problem. Make sure when you send out the debt validation letter that you send it by certified mail.
