I have 4 credit card accounts that are behind. I have been out of country for over 5 years for my job. I had auto pay set up on them, but due to an error, auto pay stopped. I did not find this out until I just recently returned. I would like to pay the accounts, however, I want to remove the derogatory info removed from my credit report. So, do I call the credit card companies, and explain the situation and hope that it works out? Or do I need to go for a "Pay for Delete"?
Delinquent accounts due to failure of auto pay set up
Hi Anderson,
You can first contact the credit card companies and talk to them about this. See what they say. If you had always been a regular on-time payer, the creditors may agree to workout this problem with you.
You should also pull a copy of your credit report and check the status of these accounts. Before you start making the payments, request the creditors to agree to a "Pay for delete" (PFD) agreement. If the creditors agree to a PFD, all the negatives on your account will be removed.
However, before you can start making any payments get all the agreements in writing. Send the PFD letters through certified mail, requesting a return receipt.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aaron
I would start with a copy of your credit report from annualcreditreport.com so that you know where to prioritize
Auto pay stopped
Twice in two years my auto pay for my phone bill with AT &T stopped and my account was overdo. Then they cut it off and tried to charge me $40 to cut back on. I had to call them and explain that it was thir fault. They removed the charge and turned it back on, but it is a major pain to have to go thru all that. I was onhold forever then had to explain everything before I got it was fixed. ugh!!!
