I have been receiving calls from a collector that states he is a legal officer with the collection company(this debt is for a payday loan). He said that yesterday he was going to put my name in the paper and send collection agents to my house! He would not send me anything in writing even though he has my address!! Is this legal? what can I do?

as far as illegal threats go that is a new one,but an illega threat nonetheless.report them to your local police.then ignore future calls as again an illegal threat.
This is a total BS. They are scammers. Don’t pay them a dime without a valid proof. If required, file a complaint against them to the SAG or FTC.
Did you take out any payday loan?

Who is this collector? How do you know whether this is a valid collection call or not? Please get things verified and establish this is something legal and not a scam before paying anything whatsoever.
