I am disabled and had to consolidate my school loans. Subsequently they appear as "discharged" on a recent credit report. My credit score is 576. I have two department store credit cards in good standing and a payed off bank loan. I would like to get a USDA Direct Loan but the school loans are prohibitive. What do I do?

Hi susan,

Welcome to this community :)

Subsequently they appear as "discharged" on a recent credit report.

Did you file bankruptcy? Generally debts get discharged in bankruptcy. If not, have you finished paying off the loans through consolidation?

I would like to get a USDA Direct Loan but the school loans are prohibitive.

Please let me know what exactly do you mean by this? Why will the school loans be prohibitive?

Thanks,

Aaron

No I have not filed bankruptcy nor have I paid off the indebtedness. I don't know why it shows "discharged." Thank you for helping.

Hi Susan,

I think you should dispute this information. You can first inquire into this with the credit bureaus.

Thanks,

Aaron
