How to pay off

Hello all,

I just found out my credit score is 608. This is due to a 2.5 year old credit card debt of $6,000. The card has since been closed. I'm a college student and am terrified of this situation. However, I would like to fix this  The card was given to me by my bank when I first started school. It had a $6,600 limit on it.

What should I do next? Talk to the bank directly? I heard paying a collection agency is the worst thing you could do? or should I get a new card to pay this off?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Burgeis,

Can you tell what is the status of this account on your credit report? That is what is written against this account? You can talk to the bank about the payments, and request them to reopen the account. Get the payment agreement in writing. Also request the bank to agree to a "Pay for delete" (PFD) agreement. With the PFD all the negatives from your account gets deleted. Get the PFD agreement in writing too.

Thanks,

Aaron
