Student loan

Hi,

I only have a few negative items on my report. One was a medical bill judgment for about $375, which was paid off 6 years ago, an old cable bill for $200, and a tech school loan for $1995. I had signed up to take night classes, was given a federal student loan, then 1/4 way through my job switched my hours so i could no longer attend and I had to cancel my classes. Then, a year later, the tech school says I didn't cancel the right way and the federal loan was dropped and they are now collecting the full amount themselves. I only took one class which costs about $300 but since I signed up for a program of 6 classes they're trying to charge me for them all.

I want this off my credit report but don't think I should have to pay it all. Is there anything I can do? If I call them up and try to get a settlement offer, won't that look just as bad on my report?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Mertysa,

Can you tell whether this is a federal student loan, or a private one? Moreover do you have proof of cancellation of the classes? If you have, then you may be able to dispute this.

Thanks,

Aaron
