Husbands cards and lates on my credit report

Hi,

My divorce was final this month, and I just got a copy of my credit report. There are 3 credit cards on it of which I have no knowledge. I do not know if my ex used my SSN to get them, or how they got onto my report. We did not share a last name. He was over 30 days late on 2 of them, and 60 days late on the other. So now they show up as negative items on my report.

Also, his car and some other items were spelled out as his responsibility in the divorce decree. His car shows up on my report even though it was bought in our old company name. Can I use the divorce decree to get that removed?

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Allison,

If these debts and car payments has been mentioned under his name in the divorce decree you may be able to remove them. However. I don't know whether or not the creditors will work with you. You can take help from your lawyer (if you have a lawyer).

As for the 3 accounts which were opened fraudulently, you can use the fraudulently opened account process to remove them from your credit report. You will have to send dispute letters to credit bureaus, with attachments which may prove that these were fraudulently opened. Mention the reason why you think that these are fraudulent accounts.

For more details you can visit http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffdl25.htm

Thanks,

Aaron
