Hi,
I have a small problem.
My husband recently received a letter from a debt collection agency stating that he owes something like $150 for a medical bill. I checked the records and found that he indeed does not owe this money. The problem is that we never received any bills from the hospital. I called the hospital and we figured out that they had been sending bills to the old address. They also told me that this debt has been assigned to a collection agency.
I called the collection agency, and they said that they've been sending us letters/bills since 2009, but we haven't received any until just recently and it was only one. The collection agency told me what address they sent them to and it's the correct address. I can't figure out where all these letters went to. No other mail has gone missing.
I'm wondering if I should just pay this debt and be done with it. Or, should I send them a letter asking them to remove this from the credit reports in exchange for full payment? Should I refuse to pay unless they remove it? This isn't fair because my husband never received any notification that he even owed anything. The hospital says they can't help us.
collection agency for hospital bill
Hi Ella,
First send debt validation letter to the collection agency certified mail, requesting a return receipt (CMRRR). Moreover as you say that you don't owe any money, why should you pay the collection agency? First get the validation of this debt. You will get a sample debt validation letter with this community.
Can you tell whether or not you have the actual hospital bill, and the payment receipt? If you have, you can try to dispute this debt with the credit bureaus.
Thanks,
Aaron
Collection agency
Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the advise. Today i have mailed the validation letter CMRRR :) Let's see what comes out of this. And yes, I do have the actual hospital bill, and also the payment receipt.
Thanks,

Hi,
Good that you have already send in the validation letter. Wait for a month and two, and then if they fail to answer to your validation, you can use the bill, and payment receipt to dispute this.
You will get a sample dispute letter with this community which you can use to write a letter of your own. Send the letter to the credit bureaus through certified mail requesting a return receipt. Attach copies of proof of letter sent, original medical bill, and payment receipt.
Thanks,
Aaron
Collection Agency
In hospital 2009, paid the one bill that was received...almost 21 months latr, collection agency bill arrives....I received no additional bills from the hospital....hospital admits that they never sent me a bill....in the meantime they send the bill to collection agency....my credit is excellent. Hospital says they will have agency take my name off....but I still owe.....don't like that they never sent me a bill then sent the bill to agency. Ruff!!!

I would file a complaint with the AG. Send a DV letter to the CA.
Debt Collector sent Collection Letter to Old Address
A new debt collector for a debt paid off long ago just turned up on my credit report. I sent them a Debt Validation letter and they responded that they already contacted me, and they sent the letter to an address I have not lived at for years, when all of my current information is in my credit report. I anticipate they will claim that my right to debt validation has expired because they contacted me (and I am sure they did this deliberately). What recourse?

I'll subscribe to that author and his future publications. The post is well organized, reminded me about https://thecincinnatusstandard.com/sample-essay-on-medical-ultrasound-h…. I see the author has a real knack for this subject. I like that theme, and I am in constant search of new pieces and the latest news. I really enjoyed that one, because it is filled with interesting facts and it is a kind of easygoing article. I spent only a couple of minutes reading and because of well-structured text, I know it completely. Thanks!
