I've made some credit mistakes in the past but have been working to clean things up and get better credit.
I've had a Capital Once Mastercard for 4 years now and never missed a payment. Checked my TransUnion and Equifax reports today and both list that card as totally green and paid.
My Fico score is 754, which is a bit lower than I'd like it, but from everything I've read is fairly acceptable and credit worthy.
Now that I've researched how credit works, I'm nervous to apply for credit cards as I don't want to get any hard pulls on my account.
1. Is it better to go in to my bank and sit down with someone, explain that I'm trying to really fix my credit, and to apply in person with them rather than online? I live in Ontario and have been with RBC for about 15 years.
2. There are some hard pulls (7 in 3 years) on my TransUnion as well as an unpaid government student loan debt. Should I have as much of this removed as possible before I apply for any more credit from anywhere?
Both bureaus tell me my FICO score is good, but I feel like the other stuff is holding me back .
credit repair
Hi,
Whenever you will apply for a new credit card or loan, the creditor or lender will check your credit report to see your creditworthiness. This can lower your score by some points (2-10). This is known as the hard pull. Even if you explain or speak to your bank, they will definitely pull your credit report before letting you get the card.
Can you tell how old the hard inquiries are? The hard inquires are supposed to fall off after two years form the date of entry on the credit report.
Thanks,
Aaron
