Collection agency on report

I have a collection agency on my credit report about a past due rent on an old apartment I had moved out of last year. I requested validation of the debt, and they sent me some statements from the property management company, but there doesn't appear to be any judgment against me. I moved out of the apartment three months before the lease was finally broken as well.

I've already ordered them to cease all phone contact and I haven't received a call since then. My question is what do I do next? Should I send a letter requesting a settlement?

I called the original creditor and they said I can't pay them since it's in collections.

Hi Kyle,

You know that you owe this debt. Thus, you are not supposed to send them the cease and desist letter. After the validation, you are supposed to make a payment arrangement with the collection agency.

If you can't seem to make the payments, you can offer a debt settlement to the collection agency. If you haven't done that yet, you should immediately send the settlement letter to the agency. Send the letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt.

Thanks,

Aaron
