Getting a credit card

I'm going on holiday soon, and the car-hire firm will only take the deposit via a credit card, not a debit card. I've never previously had a credit card, and so when I applied via my bank (who I've held the account with for about 4 years) it got rejected due to lack of credit history.

The only credit I've got is my mortgage (no missed or late payments) and a car Hire Purchase that was paid off a few years ago (again no missed or late payments). The problem could be solved if I could've And there are no other car hire firm here.

I've got no plans to use the card for anything else. So, what can I do?

Hi Dominiq,

You can try to get a secured credit card. Secured cards are easy to get. You can use this secured card to make payment on the hired car, and then make on time payment on that. This will serve your purpose, and will increase your credit score too. You can then request the creditor to transfer this card into an unsecured one.

Thanks,

Aaron
