How do I get a credit card

I had a bankruptcy (Chapter 7) that was discharged in Aug 2004. Since then I have been monitoring my credit more closely and working on rebuilding it. My FICO is now 740. And yet I cannot get credit extended to me. Whenever I apply for a card, I get rejected on basis of bankruptcy on my record, and no revolving accounts.

How am I supposed to get a revolving account if nobody will work with me because of the bankruptcy? Will I have to wait till the bankruptcy falls off my report? Will I be able to get a secured credit card in such a situation?

Thanks

Hi Dylan,

Creditors generally avoid giving credit to those with bankruptcy in their history. You can still go on trying. However, it's only a year's time when the bankruptcy from your credit report will fall off.

However, you can try taking a secured credit card. This are easy to get than the unsecured ones, and helps to improve your score. After a year or so, you can request the creditor to change this to an unsecured one.

Thanks,

Aaron
