I have horrible credit. However, I now have a good job. So I want to rebuild my credit. I have several negatives, including a bankruptcy back in 2002. However, there are also wrong listings on it like one of the accounts that has been discharged is showing a balance. I also have several collections. Can i send PFD letters on these?
One report is showing my bankruptcy twice!!! it has the same information in both entries, but one has a dash in the case number.
So which of these options are best?
1) Dispute every negative thing on my CR in one letter.
2) Dispute only the things that are wrong, but in one letter.
3) Dispute 3-5 things per month in one letter.
4) Dispute 3-5 things per month in separate letters.
rebuilding good credit
Hi Leonardo,
Bankruptcies stay on credit report for 7-10 years. Chapter 7 stays on your credit report for 10 years, and chapter 13 stays on your credit report for 7 years. If you had filed bankruptcy under chapter 7, then it will stay for 2 more years. However, if you had filed it under chapter 13, you need top dispute the listing. Dispute the bankruptcy listed twice.
As for the wrong listings, dispute these with the credit bureaus. Send them dispute letters through certified mail, requesting a return receipt.
As for the collection accounts, you can send in "Pay for delete" (PFD) letters, and request the collection agencies to agree to your PFD request. If there are more than 4 wrong listings, then it is better to send 2-3 at a time. Don't send in all the disputes at the same time.
Thanks,
Aaron
