Hey everyone, thanks for the help in advance.
I received a summons today for an old credit card bill. Heres the situation. I don't have any hard records of when I stopped paying, but it should be just past the SOL. The company suing me has the debt listed on my credit report, but neither Experian or Transunion show anything regarding the original lender. I was going to use the date of last activity to show the SOL has expired. I'm going to respond to the summons (deny I owe the collections company nything) and also send them a request to validate the debt. Any advice?

Hi jworion,
Original creditors do not always report account to the credit bureaus. Thus, you have done the right thing by sending them a debt validation letter. Can you tell whether or not you send the letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt?
With the debt validation you will get to know who the original creditor was. If you find that you have never had any card with that company, you can dispute this item off your report.
You will get sample validation letter and dispute letter with this community, which you can use to write your own.
Thanks,
Aaron
