PINNACLE FINANCIAL GROUP has just listed the same account for a second time so it now reflects 2 collection accounts. All they did was change the account number, so now one with account # 28XXXX, and one with account # 285XXXX? Is this legal for them to do? or can they be sued?

I have the same problem with a Citifinancial acct. How can they be allowed to do this?

Hi Link:

Can you tell what are the status of both these accounts on your credit report? If you have only 1 account with PINNACLE FINANCIAL GROUP, then listing the same account with 2 different account numbers is not at all legal.

However, as you are not sure about this listing, you can send debt validation letter to the collection agency through certified mail. You can use the sample debt validation letter to write one of your own. If they fail to validate any of the accounts, you can dispute that with the credit bureaus.

Though you may have the same problem as Link, if you mention your problem specifically, it becomes much easier to provide an answer that can help you get out of your problem.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Aaron

It appears that the 28xxxx and the 285xxx are the same accounts. One CRA may list first 2 digits and another CRA may report first 3 digits. Just send correction letter to one CRA stating Duplicate accounts and correct With the new information reported to the other CRA.
