Dispute has lowered my score

I am in the process of rebuilding my credit, and that have raised my score by almost 100 points. Last week I had sent an online dispute for a collections account that is not mine. This Monday I got a score alert . My score has dropped 20 points!!! The dispute status on this account shows that it is in process. The score alert states that a dispute has been initiated. I can't understand how this could effect my score. We are about to buy a house and 20 points can really touch my interest rate :(

Please help

Hi Baily,

A dispute cannot lower your score. Pull a copy of your credit report, and check if there are any discrepancies on the report. If you had applied for a loan or another card, it can lower your score, because of a hard inquiry. Thus, check your credit report first.

Thanks,

Aaron
