I need to mail out a debt validation letter and I can't find the entire account number to enter into the letter. This is from a Citi credit card that has been inactive for 5 years and now Unifund has it. Should I call up Citi and get it from them (if they still have it)? What should I do? I don't have any old statements and the dredit report I have has the last 4 digits X'd out. Thanks

copy the entry from your credit report.

this is a better method, because you don't want to give the collection agency any information.

cut and past from online or scan it in and insert as pic in your letter.

If Unifund can't identify your account from the info that they put on your credit report, then they must delete.

1. dispute with CRAs
2. DV to unifund CMRRR
3. if can't find or no response then send MOV letter to CRA with green card

Method of Verification letter.

if you send a DV to unifund and they either ignore it or send an unsatifactory response or say we can't find it.

then you ask the CRA how did you get this information because I cannot verify it throught the info that you posted.

Hi Erik,

Cinnamngrl is right. You will get the whole thing from your credit report. Just pull a copy of your credit report, and you will be able to get your full account number from there. You can then quote this in your "debt validation letter" to Unifund.

Thanks,

Aaron
