Last month I had pulled up my credit report, and saw an account listed under a collection agency. I sent them a Debt Validation Letter on 2nd March, 2010 and on the day before yesterday I received a letter from from them mentioning that I owe the debt. They also mentioned that if I wished to dispute the charge I have 30 days to do so in writing.
I had sent the letter through CMRRR. Thus, I know that they did receive my debt validation letter. My question is why did they send me a letter mentioning that I owe to them even after getting my DV letter? Am I required to reply to them?
collection letter after debt validation
Hi Jenna,
What you can do is send them a second "debt validation letter". In the letter, mention that rather than validating your debt, they have sent you a letter mentioning that you ow the debt. Thus, they are under violation of Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and should stop all collections process until they can validate your debt. Remember to send the letter through certified mail requesting a return receipt.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aaron
I would also report them to the AG
