It's been 8 yr.s since DOFD, so i thought it should have dropped off by now. I've begun typing up a dispute letter to send to the CRA. I'm looking for advice on the wording to be used for this situation.
Much thanks,
Jenn
check out the stickies, they are located on the forum board or put it in the search engine.
You may also find some of the sister site debt consolidation care, you can find a link at the bottom of the page.
Which CRA? Usually the credit reports say when it will drop off. this might wrong of course but helps to know how far you are off so you know how to handle it.
which cra?
who is the creditor?
how is it listed?
If it has been 8 years it surely should of come off of the credit report, all you have to do is write back informing the credit reporting agency that the listing is obsolete, and that you want this item removed.
debts drop off after 7 years
Hi jskins,
Generally speaking, debts drop off your credit report after the 7 year limit. However, this has nothing to do with the Statute of Limitations (SOL). When SOL expires, the creditor won't be able to win if he sues you. The negative items drop off only after 7 years.
In your case, the 7 year limit is up. So, you can dispute this item with the credit bureaus. You will be able to get a sample dispute letter at http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/dispute-letter.html .
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Aaron
