Can my wages be garnished or more importantly my vehicle be

I have received summons for a debt of aprox $1,600, and while I am figuring out what to do next, I am worried about what the court decides. I cannot afford to pay any amount whatsoever due to inadequate employment. I understand that my wages (as little as they are) may be garnished and property may actually be removed from my possession. I am really worried about losing my vehicle. Can they actually take my vehicle?

Hi rhythmtony,

As you have receive summons, you need to answer to it. To answer to the summons, you can go to the court from where the summons were served, and take help from the court clerk.

If you don't pay the judgment amount your property can be seized. However, if the judgment garnishment has been issued, the creditor can garnish your account. You can try to negotiate a settlement with the creditor. Debt settlement lowers debt amount by 40-60%. Still if you are unable to make the payments, you can give an "Application Notice" form N244. You will have to attach a copy of your income and expenditure with this.

Hope this helps.

Aaron
