My employer received a garnishment from a creditor regarding my daughter who had a child and was living on her own. My daughter didn't have any insurance and medicaid was supposed to pay the bill. Well they didn't and the hospital is now suing me, anyway, my wages cannot be garnished because I am under poverty level already. So I received a notice that my checking account has been garnished. The only thing I deposit in my account is paycheck. How does this work? How can they garnish my checking account when the only money I have coming in is my pay check and as I said before I am below poverty level.

First of all I do not feel this bill is your. Did you try to talk to the hospitol? You need to let them know the bill is not your responsibilty and explain the whole situation. In the meantime I would not deposit my paycheck in the bank. Once it is depostited it is no longer considered a paycheck but just plain old money and then they can attach it. If you must pay your bills do so by money order or dropping them off until you can get this matter resolved.
I did call the hospital and talked with the collection company. They said they had ground to pursue this and come to find out they have sued my daughter too for a different bill with the same hospital.
You need to call your atty general and ask him or her to assist you in this matter. Let them know the whole situation and I bet they get it straightened out asap. Also did you talk to the billing dept of the hospitol? If so you are talking to the wrong people.
Recently I had a doctor associated with the hospital double bill causing me double co-payments. I tried to work it out with the billing dept and they were just rude. I went to the hospitol after seeing a write up in the paper listing the hospitols supervisor and asked to speak with him. I got the matter cleared up fairly quickly then.
Try the supervisor and do not leave until you speak withhim..DEMAND it. I would also inform them if you are not satisfied you are calling the atty general.
