Credit Repair that actually works

I have three charged off credit card accounts on 2 of the three credit agencies. I was able to get them off Equifax. Any recommendations on a service provider that actually works? No luck on getting off the other two and last repair service I tried a few months ago did nothing. Don't know where to turn now.

Sorry but you just have to face the facts here. Credit repair companies are nothing but scams. Just because Equifax removed them doesn't mean that they won't show back up in the near future. The FTC has a good article about these kind of companies that I would advise you to read, http://ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/repair.shtm. Instead of paying companies to try to cheat the system you should start saving that money to just payoff and take care of the accounts. Maybe contact them and tell them you are willing to pay off the debts if they will first send you a letter stating they will remove it from your credit reports when paid. It doesn't always work but its worth a shot.

Hi Swapwap,

A warm welcome to the forum. cbass has provided with a great link. It is time you do it yourself. Dispute it with the bureau directly and see how they respond. We are there to help. :)

YEA...great advice, 'from above'..!!LOL I've researched alot of 'credit repair companies'. Also...looked on the BBB site, to see if they are legit. I've come across a few who have MEGA complaints. The ONLY real way to clear your credit, and it won't cost you a dime, is to do it yourself. Some people, on this forum, have wonderful advice, to lead you in the right direction.

I've done so initially with a company and they were able to get EQ clean, that's been over a year now and it's still off and it worked partially. Then, I tried a company that was worthless. This is why I ask of a good company. The original on went out of business, but did work for me. I have sent letters to the other two to work on clearing them up but the send me that same ole same ol, " we have valuated with the creditor and it has been updated", funny how they don't have to prove that to me, just saying it is enought.... yet nothing was changed. I called them and they basically tell me to deal with the creditor. Well the creditor has no use to speak to me because they sold it off and no longer own it, so I feel stuck.

Aside from this, where would I start and what process do you recommend that would actually work?

When I had items deleted, from my Credit Reports, I've actually had them mailed to me...with ALL 3 CB's telling me "these items have been 'updated' and deleted." However.....of course, these were items that SOL had expired.

Actually I don't mean to be rude but not all Credit Repair companies are scams. I actually had 30 out of 32 negative items removed from my reports at all 3 agencies. I am new, and not sure of the rules. So I don't want to post the name of the company. If you would like to know you can send me a message.

They are not scams I agree with boxer. But what peaple dont understand is they are nothing special. You can do the same exact thing they are doing, and have complete control over it just by doing your homework. Chances are, If you are trying your best to get your credit back to the top you dont really have the money to blow on a lawyer thats gunna use the same letters that you can use. Peaple fear standing up against the beast, knowledge is the strength to fight the beast. You can do the same thing they will do, nothing different.

i agree with Dann325. they're not exactly scams, but just unecessary hindrances.

There has been alot of advice on Credit Repair. I know lots of you say most of these companies are scams..but, some are not. Maybe I haven't found the ones that are NOT yet. I'd probably save myself a headache, if I do it myself, anyway.

Free Credit Repair
Having bad credit can be an extremely difficult thing to live with. In today's society so much depends on having good credit. Not just whether or not you can buy a new car or home, but many employers now pull credit checks on all employees and if you are trying to get a job, especially in the financial arena, having good credit is a MUST.

Is credit repair by self actually effective in improving credit score or I need to sign in for credit repair agencies

Yes, credit repair can improve your credit score. Federal trade commission also suggest to improve your credit score by yourself and to avoid credit repair agencies. Most of these credit repair agencies promise to remove all the negative listings from your credit report, but the truth is that, nobody can remove correct information from the report. However, if you want to know how to repair your credit by yourself, there are discussions in this forum which will help you to repair your credit.

I don't know... I still say the same thing I did almost a year ago right here in this very thread, they are scams!!!

They use bad tactics like sending out debt validation letters to all of your creditors knowing that sometimes they may stop reporting it to the credit bureaus, but in most cases they will reappear again in the future if it is infact a true debt that is owed.

Please just stop and think about it. If you have negative items on your credit report than more than likely they are there for a reason. If it is false information than just a simple dispute letter can resolve it, but if it's accurately being reported than what do you want to do? Hire someone to make it all better so you can just go out and obtain more debt and get into the same mess all over again. There is no lesson learned there.

Managing your credit is one of the most important lessons to learn in life. If you can't get it down eventually then more than likely you will be in for a very rocky, stressful future.

Many people do not know this, but Congressional Laws have given people with bad credit the opportunity to turn back the clock and restore their credit. Many people do not qualify for home mortgages, auto loans, apartment rentals, and even employment because of less than perfect credit. The credit repair laws can help, but most people do not know these laws exist, or have very little knowledge on the subject. That's why there is such a high demand in this field. Remember 90% of all Americans have less than perfect credit. If you don't believe me, ask around. I bet more than half the people you ask do have credit problems, and do not know how to fix them. They are stuck in a tight situation, but you will be their savior when you learn how to start a credit repair business!

It is true that you can do what credit repair companies can do.

The true question that I'd like to know is this. Does their familiarity and/or perceived expertise with the repair process allow them to streamline their approach so as to get results faster?

There is one hell of a learning curve when it comes to knowing not only the laws governing debt collection and credit reporting, but also the tricks of the trade when it comes to cleaning up your credit.

Anyone who has ever tried to clean up their credit on their own knows the credit reporting agencies play many games and even break the law in order to ensure you achieve the minimum results possible, as it is in their best interest to do so.
