I'll second what goodnatured said. I hope to help people and answer questions accurately. There are alot of credit resources that can be utilized to repair credit and whatnot. Collection Agencies really are scum and will stop at nothing to collect any amount, be it $1 or $1,000,000!

For bumping up your credit score, you may try the following
1. Since any errors bring down the credit score, always check the CR whenever you receive it and dispute the errors with the CRAs.
2. Always try to keep your old credit card accounts open, since credit history plays a major role in improving your credit score. Try to use these old credit cards for paying utility bills and then repay them on time. But don't utilize more than 30% of your credit limit. The lower is the usage, the better is your credit score.
3. Stay away from opening new credit accounts. This is because, as soon as you open a new credit account, there is a hard inquiry from the part of the creditor which gets reflected in your credit report. More and more hard inquiries suggests that you are credit hungry, which gives negative impact on your credit report

Bumping up the credit score actually means how to improve your credit score. My post above tells some methods to bump up your credit score. Besides the above methods, you can also remove hard inquiries from your credit report and improve your credit score too. You can find the procedure to remove hard inquiries from the credit report in other pages of this forum.

Whenever you apply for a new line of credit, a hard inquiry is made which gets reflected in your credit report. More and more hard inquiries show that you are credit hungry and may indicate that your debt to income ratio may be higher. These types of inquiries gets automatically removed after 2 years.
Now if you are not willing to wait for two years, you can follow the steps mentioned below.
- First ask for CR from each of the CRAs and find out the inquiries that are shown to credit grantors. Now find out the addresses of the credit inquirers, and prepare letters asking them to remove the inquiry from the report. Since FCRA allows only authorized inquiries to appear on the CR, you may challenge the inquiring creditor, whether he had proper authorization to to pull up your credit report. In most cases, they simply delete the inquiry since most of them cannot verify your authorization.

Hi Firang
Hard inquiries can stay on your credit report only if it is authorized by you. This does not mean that you need to permit them to pull out your credit report. Whenever you apply for a new line of credit, you automatically authorize them to pull out your credit report and conduct a hard inquiry. Hard inquiry stays on your credit report for two years. More and more hard inquiry implies that you are credit hungry which affects your credit score.

Hello Guys before working with COLEFRANKSERVICES I had a credit score of 531 to 542. I went looking for a loan from Metro Credit Union and they told me to pay my debt to Bank of America first which was about $4,800. At the time my credit report was awful with red mark all over it. I had a couple charge-off accounts and I was stressed out about them. I called the credit bureaus and asked them for my credit report. I found out I had about 7 negative items and 9-12 hard inquiries from every bureaus. While searching for solution, I found several good reviews about ColeFrankServices on different blogs and sites. I need some more advice. Under our actual divorce decree, he was suppose to pay for all my medical bills. The reason, they should have been covered under his medical with the military. So the judge awarded me that. Also awarded me half the money in a JT brokerage account which he sold and now capital gains is due. But I have already asked that question. He sold the stock in the account 3 weeks before closing. Nothing of course came to me. I am here still trying to pay the bills he left me with they were in both of our names. Counselingâ€“ Once you enroll into a DMP, the credit counselors associated with the organization will start off with a thorough review of your financial condition. Theyâ€™ll take note of your gross income, expenditure and savings along with details of the outstanding accounts and your lines of credit. Counseling is a significant part of a DMP since it helps the counselors to understand your financial state and assist them in future planning.
Negotiation â€“ The counselors associated with the company then try to negotiate with your creditors. The negotiation is vital since it helps to trim down the interest rates, which are being charged on your debts. Effective negotiation can eliminate the penalties, extra charges, over-limit and late fees that you may have accrued.
Planning â€“ Planning is of the utmost importance in a DMP. After the assessment of your financial competence and possible debt reduction, the counselors draw out a payment plan for you. The customized payment plan makes sure you have to pay only once every month for the debts. However, the repayment period may be stretched out, so that you can pay your debts off comfortably.
Payment â€“ You will need to forward the single affordable monthly payments to the organization, which will then be reimbursed to your creditors. Over a specific time period, all your debts will be paid off. However, youâ€™ll need to be regular with the DMP payments to get rid off your outstanding dues in time.

What should be kept in mind before enrolling with a DMP?

Before you sign up with a Debt Management Plan, you must ensure that the company is legitimate as well as efficient enough to help you out of your debt mess. The following points should be considered to make sure you donâ€™t place your trust and financial details into the wrong hands:

Donâ€™t place your trust with a company that charges you large upfront fees.
Make sure that the agency is an accredited non-profit credit-counseling agency.
Find out whether the counselors offering you debt help are certified to do so.
Find out detailed information about the services that the agency offers. Enquire about the company with the company staffs itself. If they deny you, or charge you fees for that or even enquire about your personal and financial details beforehand, refrain from enrolling with them.
A legitimate credit counseling agency should provide other services as well, like budgeting advice or money management skills apart from a DMP. Before enrolling into a DMP, enquire whether the counselors will help you with further assistance related to your money matters.
Ask for the fees charged and when youâ€™ll have to pay for the services. Look out for the hidden clauses or donations, since many of the agencies try to hide their fees in that way.
Donâ€™t forward any payment before the creditors accept the plan. Enroll with a DMP only if you feel that the payment plan is within your means, and request for detailed account information per month before enrolling.
Get everything in writing and donâ€™t believe in verbal promises. Enroll in a program only after youâ€™re totally sure that the agency is authentic and legitimate.

As it has been mentioned earlier, a debt management plan will not have instant results. Nevertheless, an effective DMP can help you to manage your debts, reduce them and eliminate them over time. At least, that is better than filing for a bankruptcy.

If the credit card company sues you and wins the case, they can put a lien on your car. As for the SSI, even if they cannot garnish it as per the laws, when the money goes into a savings or checking account, no barrier or classification remains. And so, the creditor can go on to garnish the bank account, after winning the lawsuit against you. Is it one credit card or do you have quite a few?

Yeah...it's true that they can't garnish your SSI. But if they win the judgment against you, then they can force you to sell your car to satisfy their judgment. So it's better for you to negotiate with the credit card company and try to set up a payment arrangement with them.

You could call the creditor and ask them to suimbt an update to the reporting agencies, there are three of them; transunion, equifax and experian. The update would then be done that week. But typical creditors update send their updates to the agencies quarterly (every three months).
