What to do when a collection company reports incorrect infor

HSBC reported that I paid twice after I didn't make any payments I was told they can be fined 1000 for that but idk what to do.

It wasn't the collection company im sorry it was HSBC they reported twice that I paid when I didn't and I have the staments to prove it.

First, dispute the billing under the Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA).

If you wish to pursue their inaccurate reporting, you can either send a direct dispute to them or dispute through the CRA.

Asserting a legal violations of the FCRA requires a showing that their reporting was either knowlingly inaccurate or resulted from negligence on their part. A simple violation does not give cause for damages.

Yeah I have proof they reported false payments. They actually reported the charge off sale proceeds as a payment which extended the SOL by 8 months and now this company is coming at me hard. But I was told that couldn't be used against me because I never made a payment.
